1. Information Avenli handles
The information Avenli handles depends on the features you choose to use.
Lecture and study content
When you use Avenli, you may create or provide content such as:
- lecture audio recordings;
- transcripts;
- lecture titles and related information;
- questions you ask about a lecture;
- notes, summaries and explanations; and
- flashcards, quizzes and other generated study material.
This information is processed as necessary to provide the Avenli features you request and to operate, secure and maintain the service.
Technical and usage information
Avenli may process limited technical and usage information needed to operate and improve the service. This may include information such as device and operating-system details, application version, feature usage, performance information, crashes and technical errors.
Contact information
If you contact Avenli, request support or join an early-access list, we may receive information such as your email address and the contents of your communication.
2. Microphone and lecture recording
Avenli uses microphone access so that you can record lectures. Recording begins when you choose to start a recording.
When you start a recording, Avenli may continue recording while the application is in the background or while your screen is locked so that an ongoing lecture is not interrupted.
Avenli does not use microphone access for advertising or unrelated monitoring. You can stop a recording using the controls provided in the application.
You are responsible for ensuring that you are permitted to record a lecture, speaker or other person. Recording laws and university, school or institutional rules may differ depending on your location and circumstances.
3. Transcription and AI features
Some Avenli features require online processing.
When you request transcription, explanations, answers, summaries, flashcards, quizzes or similar features, information required to perform that request may be securely transmitted for processing.
Depending on the feature, this may include relevant portions of:
- an audio recording;
- a transcript;
- a question or instruction you provide; and
- existing lecture material needed to produce the requested result.
Avenli may use specialist service providers to perform transcription, artificial intelligence processing and related technical operations.
Avenli does not sell your lecture content or use lecture content to serve targeted advertising.
4. Storage of your content
Avenli is designed to keep your original lecture recording connected with the transcript and study material created from it.
Information may be stored locally on your device. Where online processing is required, relevant information may also be transmitted to or processed by online services used to provide the requested feature.
Removing content from Avenli may remove locally stored information associated with that content. Limited technical copies may remain temporarily where necessary for processing, security, backups, reliability or legal obligations.
5. How we use information
We may use information handled through Avenli to:
- provide lecture recording and playback;
- transcribe lecture recordings;
- generate study material you request;
- answer questions using your lecture material;
- organise and retrieve your lectures and study material;
- provide search and source-navigation features;
- maintain the reliability and security of Avenli;
- diagnose crashes, errors and technical problems;
- improve usability and performance;
- prevent fraud, abuse and misuse;
- respond to support and privacy requests; and
- send communications you have requested, such as early-access or launch updates.
We do not sell personal information.
We do not use your lecture content to provide personalised advertising.
6. Analytics and diagnostics
Avenli may use limited analytics and diagnostic information to understand whether the application and website are functioning correctly, identify technical problems and improve the product.
This may include general usage, interaction, performance, crash and error information.
Where Avenli offers optional enhanced analytics, those features are subject to the privacy choices presented to you. Analytics are not used to sell your personal information.
7. When information may be shared
Avenli may share or make information available to service providers where reasonably necessary to operate the service.
These providers may include providers of:
- cloud hosting and infrastructure;
- transcription and artificial intelligence processing;
- storage and data processing;
- application monitoring and error diagnostics;
- analytics;
- email and communications; and
- security and abuse prevention.
Information may also be disclosed where required by law, where reasonably necessary to protect the rights, security or safety of Avenli or others, or in connection with a legitimate business transaction involving the service.
We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information handled through Avenli.
These include measures designed to protect information while it is transmitted and to limit unauthorised access to systems used to provide the service.
No internet-connected service can guarantee absolute security. We therefore review and improve the safeguards used to protect Avenli and its users as the service develops.
9. Data retention and deletion
We aim to keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy.
Retention may vary depending on the type of information, how a feature is used and whether information is needed for security, legal, operational or dispute-resolution purposes.
Where deletion controls are available within Avenli, you can use them to remove lectures and associated content.
You may also contact [email protected] to request deletion of personal information held by Avenli.
Limited information may remain for a reasonable period where required for backups, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance or the integrity of our systems.
10. Website and early-access information
If you join an Avenli waitlist or early-access programme, we use the email address you provide to manage your request and send relevant launch, testing or early-access communications.
You may unsubscribe from these communications at any time.
The Avenli website may also use limited aggregate analytics and, where you choose to allow it, optional experience analytics. Available analytics preferences can be changed using the privacy controls provided on the website.
11. Legal bases for processing
Where UK or European data-protection law applies, Avenli processes personal information under one or more appropriate legal bases.
Depending on the circumstances, these may include:
- performance of a contract, where processing is necessary to provide a feature or service you request;
- legitimate interests, where processing is reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain and improve Avenli;
- consent, where we specifically ask for your permission; and

Where processing relies on your consent, you may withdraw that consent where applicable.

Avenli provides recording tools to the user but does not determine whether a particular recording is permitted.
Before recording, you should comply with applicable law and any rules or policies imposed by your university, school, employer, lecturer or other relevant organisation.
15. Children
Avenli is intended for students who are permitted to use the service under applicable law.
Where a user is not legally able to consent to the processing of their personal information independently, Avenli should only be used with the permission of a parent, guardian or other authorised person where required.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Avenli develops, our practices change or legal requirements are updated.
If we make material changes, we will update this page and change the date shown at the top.
